Hulu Exploring Ad-Free Internet Video Service -

Hulu is exploring a new, more expensive premium tier that won't include advertisements, according to the Wall Street Journal. The move comes after Hulu recently announced it would be ditching the "Plus" from its brand name. According to the Journal's sources, the new service could be priced at around $12 to $14, and begin a shift for Hulu more toward services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Streaming:

Hulu s code name for the project is NOAH, which stands for No Ads Hulu, the people familiar with the matter said. One of the people said the ad-free option could launch as early as this fall and be priced at around $12 to $14 a month.
Hulu's biggest problem has been that, being owned by the cable and broadcast industry, it's historically been held back in terms of its full, disruptive potential for fear of disrupting the traditional cable TV apple cart. As such, the service has largely acted as a glorified ad for traditional television, but with ads and a subscription fee.

Recent changes suggest that Hulu management may finally be realizing that users want a little something more from the service (like no ads if users are paying a subscription fee).
